If subscription expired, will program still notice threats or was that message something wrong?

I msut say that this does not sound usual.  Firstly, if you subscription expired months ago did you not uniinstall WSA if it was no longer providing protection?  If you do not then then please check the notification tray area to see if you are showing the Green Circle with a 'W' in it and/or the Add/Remove Programs function (under the Control Panel) to see if you have WSA installed.
 
If you find that it is still installed please look to start it and see what the subscription status is reported as on the main panel.
 
Finally, if you believe that WSA is not installed or providing protection please let us know what security software you are using, as the most important thing to do in that case is to make sure that you do have an alternative and that it is protecting you.
 
We await your responses before moving on to the question as to whether you have been hijacked or not.

Howdy! Thanks for your response.
I never uninstalled it, just too busy. But I did install Microsoft Security essentials.  I got the webroot when I bought the computer, but went to "free" when the subscription ended.
When I open webroot from my "all programs" it says "expired" but then there is a field/bubble near the the bottom that says "webroot has protected me from 12 threats" followed by a "renew now" button. 
What's weird is microsoft did a service pack update on my computer right after this happened.
After all these years I just wish I understood my computer better!
If Webroot is still protecting me, not sure if I should uninstall! (Haha!)

OH, and there is no circled w in my tray.  I was just shopping on line at amazon and looking up something on google and a whole bubble opened identified as webroot and asked if I wante to block or allow a program trying to install on my computer that would open at every Start. I didnt' recognize the program so I blocked it.  I opened webroot from the all programs list wondering why it was working at all.
 
Also, when I got the webroot sub, it allowed for 2 other computers and my son says his still does that too, but he can still run antivirus program as well!

Thanks for all the information.  As I said before I have never heard of this behaviour before but I can tell you for free that MSE is not a patch protectionwise comapred to what you get with WSA.
 
Without seeing the popups it is a little difficult to say if they are genuine as I have nerv heard of WSA continuing to protect a user more than 30  days after license expiry.
 
Perhaps @ or @ can shed some light on this and advise if they have come across this 'phenomena' before?

This is not a hard sell but if you have 5 computer to protect and you are already a user then you may be able to get a decent renewal price if your version was Complete...it is the only one that has the option of covering 5 computers.  Alternatively, if you look around there are lots of legitmate deals reputable offering the 5 seat version at discount prices, and we even have some resellers here who might be able to provide WSA at a resonable price.
 
Perhaps now is not the time but if so minded do come back here both for more information on WSA and how it compares to other security apps, etc.
 
EDIT: Must be slowing down (well, it is late here) as I missed Daniel's post on the deals. :$
