Does this seem like a good idea? To me it appears to be a glitch.
On the other hand, I do see appropriate account options appearing when I click on my own handle on the right side of the page with the icon apparently assigned to me, a pair of red binoculars.
Logged in, when I click My Account at top right, I am directed to have to log in again!

May I ask what browser you are using and what sort of popups are you getting?
Have you tried resetting your browser to default? Have you checked to see if you have any add ons or extensions in your browser that you aren't aware of or even in the Control Panel/Programs/Add Remove?
To help with these issues it's best to install an Ad Blocker for your Browsers:
For Firefox Adblock Edge: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/adblock-edge/?src=ss
For Chrome µBlock : https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/%C2%B5block/cjpalhdlnbpafiamejdnhcphjbkeiagm?utm_source=ch...
For Internet Explorer Del Ad 15 day trial: http://www.delad.com/en/
So I would suggest to use one of the other Browsers as the Ad Blockers are free.
(I also have Ghostery Extension that helps as well)
Try these and if this doesn't help then please get back to us and let us know what sort of popups we are dealing with.
