As of yesterday, I started getting a Webroot pop up when I start my computer telling me that this event wants to install itself to start up every time the computer does. I didn’t know what it was, so I may have blocked it as Webroot suggested. But then there was another pop up saying that it was trying to connect to the internet. Looking online, I found that this program was a part of Window, maybe edge. I tried allowing it, but all that does is refresh the pop so the timer resets. It does this over and over if I click on the allow button. If I let it go until Webroot says it will allow it (2 minutes I think), then the pop up goes away. But today it popped up a second time doing the same thing. I did sent in a support ticket, but I figured I’d check here.

I can’t say for sure that it said that it wanted to install itself to run on start up today for sure. I didn’t think to check. It may have or it may not have. I did look under Blocked items under PC Security, but nothing was listed. Does that mean it’s not blocked or do I need to look somewhere else.

I also wanted to know if the issue with Nvidia app and drivers not installing has been fixed yet. In the forums it said that the fix would come in April.

Hi @Kev914

Did you try a clean reinstall of WSA? If not please do!

Please follow the steps closely!

  • Make sure you have a copy of your 20 Character Alphanumeric Keycode! Example: SA69-AAAA-A783-DE78-XXXX
  • KEEP the computer online for Uninstall and Reinstall to make sure it works correctly
  • Download a Copy Here (Best Buy Geek Squad Subscription PC users click HERE) Let us know if it is the Mac version you need
  • Uninstall WSA and Reboot
  • Go into Safe Mode and Delete these Folders if they are there!
  • C:\Program Files\Webroot Folder
  • C:\ProgramData\WRData Folder (Hidden Folder)
  • C:\ProgramData\WRCore Folder (Hidden Folder)
  • Boot back into normal mode
  • Install with the new installer, enter your Keycode
  • Let it finish it's install scan
  • Reboot once again
  • DO NOT import any old settings as you can set it up as you like once it's done

Info in case you don’t know how to go into Safe Mode: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/start-your-pc-in-safe-mode-in-windows-10-92c27cff-db89-8644-1ce4-b3e5e56fe234

Please let us know if that resolves your issue?

Thanks,

Hello @Kev914

Yes support is the best way as I wouldn’t want you to do a clean reinstall in case it’s an infection. The fix for NVIDIA not sure yet we Beta Testers did get an update to the Core files but nothing has been said yet as to what was fixed.

Have look here to see if you got the update?

Thanks,

Thanks. This seems to be resolved now. Not sure what did it exactly. Support told me some settings were too high. But I don’t think I ever changed any of them. Nonetheless, I preformed the steps they gave me. The next day I got the same message about msedgew trying to install itself to run whenever the computer starts, followed by maybe 7 attempts to connect to the internet some times through different ports. I just waited for the timer to expire for each of them. And so far I haven’t gotten any more popups. Gives you a bit of uneasiness. Like why did this happen?

I did scan with webroot and scan with malwarebytes and neither one found any thing.

Thanks.

Good to hear! In most cases a clean reinstall will fix most issues with Webroot just wanted to know it wasn't some kind of infection. It sounds you had your Heuristics set to Max as I do and I never seen any issues with what your seeing.

Cheers,

Well, I guess I spoke too soon. It happened the last two times I started my computer. Before that it was only happening once a day. In any case, I uninstalled Webroot. Restarted. Went ahead and updated the Nvidia app and the driver, and then re-installed Webroot. Hopefully that fixes it. I’m not having the issue on my other pc.

Well if you got the new Core file as I posted above it fixed the NVIDIA bug as i just installed the newest driver without issues but not sure if it’s just us Beta Testers or to everyone? Hopefully your other issue is gone as well!

EDIT:

@Kev914 yes it fix has gone out to everyone check here!

Hope I’m not being premature, but it appears that uninstalling Webroot, installing the Nvidia app and the latest driver and then re-installing Webroot has fixed the issue.

I believe this all started when the Nvidia App tried to update itself and then failed. I was surprised that the Nvidia App tried to update itself without my intervention. In the past, I always had to click on the app, and then it would update. When it failed, it said that I would have to update manually. I downloaded the installer and again it failed. I waited a few days and downloaded a new update and it still failed. I started searching the internet for solutions. I saw where people were saying that Webroot was blocking the installation. Some said the solution was to uninstall Webroot. One said that he was able to update by just shutting Webroot down. I didn’t like the idea of uninstalling my anti-virus, so I tried shutting it down, then installing the Nvidia app. But it failed again. Decided to wait for a fix from Webroot.

About this time, I noticed that Blender would no longer open. Don’t know if it was related but I think it ‘s possible. Maybe when the update of the app failed, it messed up something by not completing. I was able to get blender working again by installing the Windows feature update preview and the framework update. Don’t know which one fixed it.

But I was afraid to try the Nvidia app again. Maybe if it failed, it would break something else. And then I started getting those prompts everyday about msedgew. But I haven’t seen them now in a few days.

Forgot to add that when I shut down Webroot and tried to install the Nvidia app, and it failed that I restarted my computer. When it booted up, I was asked if I wanted to allow Webroot to make changes to my computer. I think that’s an indication that Webroot crashed, is it now?

This belongs at the end of the second paragraph, and it might be a significant piece.

In some cases some users see this and it’s all good so no worries there!

Well, I was going to say it was fixed. But after a couple of days, it just did it again. I wonder if it has something to do with the latest Windows 11 updates. I heard they were causing Blue Screens and things. But I haven’t had that.

And I don’t even use Edge.

Could be I'm staying away from windows 11 because I hear of so many issues. Try contacting Webroot support again to see what they say.
