My Google chrome continues to have adds though I have run the Webroot many times. Is there a cure?

Google chrome continues to give me problems that drive me crazy. Opening new tabs with adds about how to rid of virus attacks or that I need to update my drivers.  Once I get those off of the screen and open a page with bank info I am bombarded with adds that pop up all over the screen.  I rerun the scan using Webroot and it shows that there are no virus' to remove.  Any ideas as to how stop this problem in Google chrome?

Hello @,

Welcome to the Webroot Community!

You are likely seeing this issue caused by Potentially Unwanted Applications.

Please see our guide for removing them at https://community.webroot.com/t5/Techie-KB/How-to-Remove-Potentially-Unwanted-Applications/ta-p/40744.

It is important to note that these are not malicious, just extremely annoying. That is why Webroot will not remove them.

I got the following message when I tried to go to the page you suggested "An invalid peramater has been entered"
Can you check to see if the page you had me go to has not changed.  Thanks for your help.

Well that did get me the correct page to teach me to remove an app  but it doesn't tell me which apps to remove.  You have been so helpful, so I hate to complain but what apps do I get rid of to stop all these crazy adds and pop ups?

Hello  @

Have you installed these ad blockers for your browser?

For Internet Explorer Ad Block Plus: https://adblockplus.org/

For Firefox uBlock: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/ublock-origin/?src=ss or Privacy Badger: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-us/firefox/addon/privacy-badger-firefox/

Google Chrome uBlock: https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/ublock-origin/cjpalhdlnbpafiamejdnhcphjbkeiagm?hl=en or Privacy Badger: https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/privacy-badger/pkehgijcmpdhfbdbbnkijodmdjhbjlgp

Could you tell me what ad that keeps popping up?  What do these ad popups say?

Have you checked your browsers for any unknown or added extensions? Have you reset your browser?

Hi JRW

There is no easy answer to that question without having some further infomration as to the provence of the ads...usually with a name we can suggest what applications may be behind the oppups.

As an alternative what you can do is to carefully review all the apps you find installed and uninstall any that you do not recognise as having yourself installed...if you do that carefully and one by one (assuming that more than one are the culprit) checking between each to see what effect that uninstallation has had you shoudl be able to narrow down to the ones that are behind this/have been installed without your knowledge.

Of course, if in doubt don't unisntall, or if you do then make sure that have imaged your system first or at least have created a System Restore Point just in case.
