My Google email  account has been hacked. At midnight, the virus sends out emails from my address list.

The mails contain a large green circle, saying "Play", but if you click your mouse, nothing happens,

The malware raided my email address list and each night sends out hundreds of emails to the people on the list. Because of the huge quantities of emails that go out from my address, Google will no longer send my outgoing emails (I do receive the incoming emails, however.)

I have run Webroot twice, and it does not detect the malware.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thank you,

Roy

Hi Roy

Welcome to the Community Forums.

First thing to do is to change the password asociated with your email account (if you have not already) making it as trong as possible, i.e., mixture of characters, upper & lower case, numerics, special characters, etc.

The next thing to do, if WSA is coming up clean, is to Open a Support Ticket to get the Webroort Support Team to check out your system and make sure that there is nothing lurking on your system.

You may also want to take a look at this Security News item on steps as to how to see if your account has been hacked; it may be of some use.

Baldrick,

Something new has happened.

I booted up the infected PC and found that I can now not get into the internet at all, through browsers or email. I went to a different PC to access my Google account directly, and was able to get into the GMail account, but there were several messages there from Google, stating that an unknown app had tried to access my account. Possibly the unknown app is the virus? Possibly the virus takes over when I try to log into the Gmail account?

In any case, i can't download the log-gathering utilty on the infected PC.

Thanks in advance for your help. (Help!)

Hi Roy

That does not sound good.  Are you able to download the log-gathering utilty on the other PC, save it off to a USB stick and then transfer it to and run it on infected PC?

It should be easy enough to then gather the logs produced...take them to the other PC by UISB stick and then upload them to the Support Team via the Suport Ticket I am presuming that you have opened?  You can access the Support Ticket from any PC...you are not limited to accessing it from the PC you ran the log gathering utility on.

Also, when submitting the logs to the SUpport Team it may be sensible to update the log with a linkto this thread so that they can see what we are discusssing in case they find it useful.  At the very least you need to advise them that you now not get into the internet at all, through browsers or email, etc.

Hope that helps some?

Well,

I used the Webroot report utility and it uploaded the report to Webroot two days ago, but I never received a reply.

My infected PC stands ready to be disinfected, but I'd like to hear from Webroot's support tream before I try anything else.

Nic, if you're reading this, Baldrick said you would confirm that Webroot received the utility report.

Thanks,

Roy
