Hi Friends, I need help today.
My husband's laptop freezes when ever he accesses Facebook. He has Windows 8.1 and IE 11.0. First I ran a Webroot Scan and found no viruses or problems, which is what I expected.
I tried the usual disc cleaning, defragmenting, and deleting browser history on exit. Nothing is helping. Do you have an suggestions or is it time to call for a technician?
Since the problem is limited to Facebook, it seems to me there is something I've missed in trying to clean his machine. I humbly and gratefully accept any and all suggestions you might have.

You're awesome! Made the change and if he logs on using Chomre, no more screen freeze.

I saw that post floating around on the web and seems to me there has to be something other than changing hissystem to Google Chrome. But if that's what it takes, we'll give it a try. Won't that be quite the laugh?

What browser does your Husband use? The reason I ask is that there are a number of browsers out and about and a couple of the most popular are either Chrome or Firefox.
You can install them in addition to your existing browser, then don't conflict & they are easy to install...just like another normal application, and then you just run them.
Just make sure that you download Chrome or whatever other download from the official Google site rather than a 3rd party site as the latter can, in some instances, come with additional and unwanted extras.

Just an update to my original post. Via the Facebook help suggestions kindly sent by Baldrick, I set my husband's browser to Chrome.
It buys him a little more time on Facebook and now eBay, but the machine still freezes up. I feel close but far away in coming up with a solution.

Thanks for the feedback.
We need to try to understand what the cause is of the freeze, so next time...before it freezes but before it gets so slow as to not really be usable would you right click on the taskbar and from the context menu displayed select 'Task Manager'. Once that shows make sure that you are on the Processes tab, and that in the bottom lefthand corner it states something like 'Fewer Details. If it says something like 'More Details' then click on the link to get more details displayed.
Then click on the column marked 'CPU', note the names of the top 3 or 4 processes displayed from the top down together with the values in the 'CPU' & 'Memory' columsn for each. Then do the same for the 'Memory' column, note the top 3 or 4 processes, etc., and then post back here and we will see if we can spot anything that may be consuming too much CPU or RAM, and so slowing the system.
Cannot guarantee this will reveal anything useful but it is an approach.

+3Just a suggestion, getting back to IE11, if not tried or suggested already. Have you tried checking the option "Use software rendering instead of GPU rendering", and rebooting to try?
