my product key only worked on 1 device not 5 like it says

May I ask you where did you purchase Webroot from? From Webroot directly online or from another vendor? Also are you installing on a PC? Is this a renewal subscription?
 
If you have WebrootSecure *Anywhere Complete then that would cover 5 devices.
 
Would you try to install with these instructions below?
 

• Make sure you have a copy of your 20 Character Alphanumeric Keycode! Example: SA69-AAAA-A783-DE78-XXXX
• KEEP the computer online during the install to make sure it works correctly
• Download a Copy Here (Best Buy Subscription PC users click HERE). Let us know if it is the Mac version you need.
• Install with the new installer, entering your Keycode when prompted to do so in the install process
• Let it finish it's install scan
• Reboot 

 
If you continue to get an invalid keycode then it would be best to Submit a Support Ticket which is free of charge with a Webroot subscription. They will gladly help you out. Or call:
