I have a Brother MFC - 736ON. I have Windows 10. I have wifi connectivity. Prints and copies. (no fax b/o no landline)
I'm told by Brother Uitility the firewall needs to be taken down to scan.
Can't seem to be able to take it down without your help.

I wou,d be surprised if it was indeed the Firewall that needs to be 'taken down' to scan, and being without firewall is not something that we would recommend. Having said that this can be done but first may I ask what version of Windows you are running?
