New computer and trying to figure out what to delete?

I just bought a new laptop and I chose webroot as my antivirus. I knew enough to uninstall the trial McAfee and then I installed webroot and malwarebytes. I am still uninstalling some bloatware but I don't know what to do with a pre-installed program called Avast Secureline. I'm not sure if it's a full antivirus program or just an online security program. So, could someone please tell me what it is and wether or not I need to uninstall it? Thanks!

Hi Wrathofkhash

Weclome to the Community Forums.

SecureLine is a personal VPN service (see here for a description of what a VPN service is in case you do not know or are unclear) from the Avast security company.  I believe that it is a paid for rather than free service but suspect that you PC may have come with a short trial free subscription which you will be offerred a renewal on.  As far as I can see it is no expensive but then money is money.

What they claim is that it "Protect all your online activities from prying eyes. A single click launches a VPN and hides your IP address, allowing you to enjoy true privacy" all of which is true but not strictly necessary for the average user.  I know that some members use a VPN service for some of the other advantages it provides but I believe that the majority do not and I for one certainly do not feel the need to do so.

In terms of more information about please see this review from respected industry jornal PCMag, and hopefully something in the above will assist you in making your decision.

Pelase post back here if you have any further questions.

Regards, Baldrick
