Opted out of auto renewal, charged anyways, need refund NOW

On March 26, at 2:02pm CST, I recieved a notice from Webroot regarding autorenewal about to happen on April 9th. The next day, I chose to opt out and followed the instructions in order to do so, by clicking the direct link in the email to cancel my subscription, and sending an email with my name, my email address tied to the account, and my reason for needing it canceled.

In response, Webroot chose to not only ignore my opting out, but chose to expedite the renewal to a week earlier (April 2nd), and charged me anyways.

I do NOT appreciate being lied to and stolen from, especially since this action almost caused me to be evicted from my home, because I no longer had enough money to cover my rent. ("Financial hardship" was my reason for for the cancelation in the first place)

I need my money back IMMEDIATELY.

thank you, but I just feel a little uncomfortable taking a stranger's money (albeit, a very generous stranger), even if I'm just going to hand it right back a few days later. >_<

Hello @

Welcome to the Community Forum,

Very sorry to hear about being charged for the Webroot Subscription. Was this from Webroot directly and if so please call them here below or fill out the form.

If you purchased online from Webroot.com:

Click here to start the refund process. You will need the invoice number and the exact dollar amount shown on the invoice total. For assistance with refunds, contact our Consumer Sales team.   We are only Volunteers here and we cannot authorize refunds. But we can direct you for help in resolving this. Was this Webroot or Best Buy may I ask? If Best Buy you can call 1-800-Geek-Squad.  Kind Regards, EDITED: Call your credit card bank and cancel the order.

@ this was from Webroot directly. I will attempt a refund through the link you gave. I have tried calling, however, their business hours are 7am-6pm mountain time, Monday-Friday. I am out of luck talking to anybody over the phone until the weekend is over.

@ I just finished with the return process, and it says that it will take 3-5 business days. I am **bleep**-out-of-luck, it seems. Here's hoping I can beg for these extra days with my landlord tomorrow morning....

This was through a debit card, not a credit card. That money is no longer in my account. The transaction is already done, there is nothing left to cancel....

Hi @,

Well that's not good. I've never had this issue on the Forum before and now I know that it takes 3-5 days.

Even if you filed a claim with the bank or credit card it would take that long to get it back into your account I am thinking.

Good Luck with the landlord Nick!

Well you could fight it with the bank as an unauthorized charge to your account but no telling how long it would take for the bank to replace the money back into your account....

@ Oh your welcome Nick!

@ That is incredibly kind of you, but let me try talking to my landlord first before we do this. I will keep you informed tomorrow morning. Thank you!

After showing her all the emails and stuff, my landlord is allowing me time until Friday to pay, without late fees. She actually had been through something similar herself in the past few years, but with car insurance renewal, she wanted to switch companies after her contract, and found out when she tried to pay for the new insurance. Thank you all for your support! Hopefully a Webroot employee browses these forums and can expedite the refund as early as possible.
