PC will no longer sleep

Good morning yarmbutts.......Welcome to the Community. Can you disable Wedbroot via right clicking the taskbar icon/choose/shut down protection/Ignore any windows warnings.........................and see if you can get your device to SLEEP. Please report back so we can be of further assistance if required???

Good call. It still didn't shut down, although the screen went down. I even completely removed WR and it still didn't shut down. When I had Norton Internet Security, it used to shut down as scheduled Then I installed a free version of Avast and it didn't shut down. Avast was really annoying too, so I dumped it and bought Webroot. 
I assumed that it was Avast that was preventing the PC from shutting down but either Avast changed something in the settings, or something else happened simultaneously.
As I mentioned, changing the Windows settings doesn't do anything, those settings are being overridden by something else.
Any thoughts would be welcome.

Just wondering, based on what you have stated about Avast, as to whether it was completely installed? To check that you could try running the Avast Removal Tool (HERE) to see if it can find and get rid all all elements of the app...you never know, it may just reset the settings require to allow Sleep Mode.

Just to add what Baldrick mentioned above you may want to run the Norton Removal Tool as well. You did mention that you had it installed prior to Avast. Always a good idea to run the removal tools when available.
