Possible hacknig

I was having a problem with Netflix so I calledwhat I thought was thier tecnical support. The guy on the phone asked for access to my computer which I granted thinking it was Netflix. Using a command prompt he snanned my gmail and then told me that my computer had been hacked, due to the number of IP addresses in the list. He then offered to give a telephone number where I could pay $250.00 to get it fixed. Being suspicious I declimed. I went back to page where I got the Netflix telephone number and found that it was actually a company called Fix-It.

My question: Is it possible that he could have got personal infotmation from this quick scan, and if so, what would be the best course of action now?

Hi Richard0656

Welcome to the Community Forums.

It is always possible that the person who scanned you system did manage to get personal information, especially as there is no way to know what was scanned.

As a precaution I would immediately change all passwords that you may have stored on your computer, as a precautionary measure...better safe than sorry.

I would then Open a Support Ticket so that the SUpport Team can check out your system to make sure that nothing untoward has been done to it. This is a free of charge service for user of WSA with an active subscription.

Regards, Baldrick

Hi Richard,

Welcome to the community Netfilx would never be able to tell you about IP addresses on your pc and wouldnt be able to tell you if you been hacked or not. Netfilx would not offer you to pay 250 dollers to fix the problem for you this is known as a scam where the fake company can get details off your pc and rip you for 250 dollers in the meantime. The best things to do is change all passwords like email accounts ,online banking , card details ECT.... after you changed these details you can report the fake company to your local police who will take action agaist them. If you are using webroot it is advised that you do a full scan so it can see if they have left any keylogs/viruses that can get your infomation. To make extra sure you can open a trouble ticket  so webroot can take alook at your logs and help to make your pc more safer.

If you need any more help please feel free to let us know. Thanks Adam.

EDIT: (Bladrick beat me to it Added a little bit more)

The company that I connected to was "FixNow experts.com" who seem to located at 625 Street South,
Kitchener, Ontario, Canada, Postal Code - N2G1W5. They seem to be a legitimate comany. I am inclined to think that I am safe, but I will change my passwords anyway. This way of selling thier services seems a bit bogus to me. Anyway, thank you very much for your help. thanks that is, to both of you that replied.
