I installed webroot when i first bought my PC. It recently said that it expired so I went to bestbuy and bought a new internet security disc with the security code and everything. I followed any steps I could to install it but after putting in the code and coming up with passwords and all that, it still says that it expired and it keeps bringing me to a screen to pay another $50 which i am not going to do. Please help!

Hi kay123

Welcome to the Community Forums.

Was your original purchas eof WSA (Webroot) also from Best Buy or did you buy it from a different retailer or Webroot directly? As you current purchase is from Best Buy it is important to have the answer to this question.

@ given that this is a Best Buy-related purchase in some part may I ask you to bring your expertise in the domain to bear on this one?  Thanks in advance.

Regards, Baldrick

Hello there, welcome to the Community!

Baldrick my friend, this might be a couple of different things going on here... it could be that the old subscription was not a Best Buy Subscription, or if they both were it could be a bug I have seen a few times in which a change of key code just plain fails to save correctly.

Either way, I think a Clean Re-Install will probably fix the problem.

I am ASSUMING your new copy will be a Best Buy Subscription, but you can verify this easily by looking at the back of the packaging.  If there is a Best Buy Serial Number in the lower left corner, it is a Best Buy version.  Also, if on the front of the packaging it says anything about Install Immediately, Activated at Register, or something like that it will be a Best Buy Sub.

Please give this a try and let us know how it does:

  • Make sure you have a copy of your 20 Character Alphanumeric Keycode Example:SA69-AANA-A783-DE78-C584
  • KEEP the computer online for Uninstall and Reinstall to make sure it works correctly
  • Download a Copy Here (Best Buy Subscription PC users click HERE)
  • Uninstall WSA and Reboot
  • Install with the new installer, enter your Keycode and don't import any settings as you can set it up as you like once it's done
  • Let it finish it's install scan
  • Reboot once again

Anytime my good friend!

That bug with a change of key code not 'sticking' seems also related to a similar bug in which the key code remains the same, yet the software reports as expried following renewal.  A look in the My Account tab shows that the subscription has 360+ days remaining, yet for some reason the status remains expired.

A simple re-install fixes both situations, and again I think they are of a common cause.  I am not positive on this, but I believe the bug to affect both the Best Buy version as well as the standard versions as well.
