Hi.

I made a change to the settings in the heuristics area.
My selection is "warn when any new program executes that is not speccifically whitelisted.
So far no problems, but I was wondering if this change could have other adverse results?
Thanks.

Hello Tony2,

You should be fine with the all default settings. WSA is an application we can call as "install and forget". WSA's default settings are pre-configured in a way that you don't need to tweak them. Of course you're free to adjust the settings as per your needs or wish.

As for the heuristics settings,Some can have all heuristics set to max. without any issues. I personally have mine set to default for the last 3 1/2 yeras on 5 computers and haven't an any issues.

Please have a look here at the Webroot  the PC User Guide

Have a look at thisThread & this  Thread

Maybe ? and ? can add to this?

Hi Tony3

Hope that you are well?

The use of the 'Warn when any new program executes that is not specifically whitelisted' would, at least initially, get extremely annoying and is not necessary with the advanced Webroot Intelligence Network and monitoring/journaling capabilities that back up/are used by WSA.

As you mosyt probably know journaling will log the behaviors of any .exe that has not yet been identified by Webroot as 'Good'. Unknown files will be journaled for possible remediation in any case.

If the change has been prompted by soomething such as the prevelance of ransomware then I would not worry as WSA running default settings should eb able to detect and block ransomware.

Hi Tony3,

I only use this mode if I know for sure if all my files are whitelisted in the Webroot Cloud Database! If many of them are Unknown it could be a PITA as you will get so many pop-ups and you will end up going back to Maximum Heuristics which I run always without issues. It's there but it will make your system act like an Anti-EXE application if the file is unknown to the Cloud database. It's your choice so there we have it.

I call it Paranoid Mode!

Cheers,

Daniel 😉

Thanks for your response.
I read the links suggested and they are helpful.
So fat I have no issues with the setting.
Ocaasionally I will be prompted to block or allow a program but its not an issue.
Once again thanks.

Glad to hear that you are. I am, and thank you for asking, too. :D

Glad to hear that the change is not causing you any major issues...as Daniel said, if most or all of what you run is already whitelisted then you should not be troubled, in the main.
