how to find a key code and i wasnt given one
so i purchased web root at a computer store and they never gave me a key code

You should find the keycode on the back of the box. It's a 20 Character Alphanumeric Keycode! Example: SA69-AAAA-A783-DE78-XXXX
If you purchased from BestBuy they will have the keycode registered. Do you have the receipt? If from Best Buy ..you can call 1-800-GeekSquad.
