I am new to this, but hopefully I can get an answer today to this problem without having to take my Dell laptop computer into the repair shop.   For the past two days, I am continually getting the message when turning on my computer that I need to update my Webroot security sytem.  I made the mistake yesterday of saying "yes" and within fifteen minutes my computer was locked up and i was given this phone number to call to unlock it: (1-855-612-6018).  When I phoned this number, I was told that I had likely received my Webroot via a scan rather than real time protection (which I interpret to be from the Cloud).  I have recently renewed my subscription to Webroot via the Internet and am wondering if that is the problem.  I would appreciate all ideas on this subject.  I have scanned my computer a number of times on Webroot and Windows Defender to no avail.  PLEASE HELP ME!!!!

it makes me think on one side you are talking about the message asking if webroot can make changes to your system but that message ain't displaying a phone nr so you may have gotten infected by something.

Hi joyceburk

Welcome to the Community Forums.

Well, this all sounds very strange to me so what I would do is to immediately Open a Support Ticket, explain the issue to the Support Team (you can include a link to this thread which will save you typing most of the information again) and let them see if they can fathom out what has happened/is going on. The service is free to WSA users with an active subscription (which should be the case for you as you say you have recently renewed).

Out of interest I checked the phone no. you mention and it does not correspond to any Webroot-related no. that I can find so I am thinking that somehow you are being scammed or someone is trying to perpetrate a scam on you hence the advice to contact Support immediately.

Please do that and come back here to let us know what transpires.

Regards, Baldrick
