Good morning!

I just renewed my webroob subscription, but it is still showing expired (even after restarting my system). Would you have any advice for me? Thank you so much!

OK, if you renewed through Best Buy, and you did that today, then the transaction has NOT gone through yet.  You will have received the form email reply, I know that, but Best Buy only does ONE billing batch per day, and it is done at night.

If you provided the credit card information today, your card will be billed tonight, and by tomorrow morning your software should reflect the renewal and be back to active.

NOTE: As long as WSA is still installed, you ARE still protected.  Both Webroot and Best Buy provide a 30 day grace period in which the software WILL show expired, but it will actually still be working in the background to keep you protected.

Hello ?

Welcome to the Webroot Community.

While it is not common, sometimes while the number of days on the subscription correctly changes to reflect the renewal, the 'bit' that controls the status fails to get reset correctly.  Thus... it thinks it is still due to expire even though it shows the real correct number days remaining after the renewal.

So... give this a quick try:

  • Open WSA
  • Click the Gear next to My Account
  • Re-enter your key code in the white box (The exact same key code you already have, possibly showing right next to the box)
  • Click Activate
  • Allow WSA to finish the requested scan
  • REBOOT the computer.

Usually this will fix the problem.  If it does not, a Clean Install will.  This obviously takes longer than simply re-entering the key code, but it still only takes a few minutes.  Here is how to do it.

Please follow the steps closely!

  • Make sure you have a copy of your 20 Character Alphanumeric Keycode! Example: SA69-AAAA-A783-DE78-XXXX
  • KEEP the computer online for Uninstall and Reinstall to make sure it works correctly
  • Download a Copy Here (Best Buy Subscription PC users click HERE)
  • Uninstall WSA and Reboot
  • Install with the new installer, enter your Keycode and don't import any settings if asked to as you can set it up as you like once it's done
  • Let it finish it's install scan
  • Reboot once again

Let us know if this fixes it!

If I may add a quick question to the mix: Is your subscription directly through Webroot or do you renew through Best Buy (Yes.. that can make a difference)

Hello, BD!

(I just realized I mispelled Webroot in my initial inquiry, lol--my apologies for that). This is so comprehensively helpful, and I thank you! There probably was some additional communication I should have included. I will mention all of that in response to the other helpful comment below, in case there would be any additional advice based on that. WOW! I am shocked at how quick helpful responses came. Thank you so much &#x; !!!

Hello, David!

Initially, my Webroot protection was part of a GeekSquad service package--both of which had expired. When I clicked on renew, I chose to renew only the Webroot protection. I didn't think to see if there would be a new key-code generated, as the transaction was conducted under the same initial service (and family) account. I assumed that I would open up my Webroot and see it as active. Instead, it is still red and showing expired. I tried re-entering the prior key-code, but it will not accept it. It is possible that the primary account holder has had the new key-code sent to them in their email. I will check that later and first of course. In the meantime, I had wanted to see if there was possibly other problems that I could address. DB's response was so thorough and helpful, but I realized I had possibly ommitted some additional vital information within this issue. I apologize for all of this lengthy confusion. I thank you and DB for your continued patience and support &#x; !

AHHH...thank you so very much! Patience is a virtue, and I see I have a ways to go, lol! This is comforting to know, and awesome detailed information. Everyone really knows their stuff here! I thank everyone so much, and will save all information for future use (just in case). Have a wonderful and blessed day &#x; 🙂 !

P.S. I did notice that scans are still being performed automatically, so thankfully it appears that my system is still protected!

You are most welcome!  Sorry to take this over from BurnDaddy, but I used to be a top esclations expert at Geek Squad FOR the Best Buy Subscription Software...  I know more more about the billing system than most people 🙂

Quite alright! The way I see it, the more reply information that is generated, the better for everyone who may wander by with a similar issue. So wonderful that you are using past professional experience to continue helping people in the online communities 🙂 🙂 !

I started here while still working, as I found being here helpful at work, AND vice versa!  Pretty much a win-win for me.  I enjoy passing along what I know, AND learning more to be able to pass on even more and help more.

Thank you for your kind reply, it is appreciated 🙂
