Uninstalling and reinstalling

Having spent most of the day on various issues I still have not managed to completely uninstall webroot and therefore cannot reinstall. I have followed (at least I think I have) all instructions to uninstall - add/remove program and deleted the wrsa file. However it seems there is more to delete? I would like to get this issued resolved so that I may reinstall webroot as I depend on it greatly for this particular machine (online business).

Thank you for any help you can provide.

Hi atticandbarn

Welcome to the Community Forums.

Normally the Add/Removal Control Panel applet option should work fine but if that does not or if you cannot use it then please take a look at this KB Article which provides some additional information that may be of use.

EDIT: What may also be of assistance in this further KB Article that contains a list of all of the file locations and a brief description of what the files do in relation to the WSA installation.

If none of the above helps then please provide some additional information as to exactly what is telling you/letting you know that WSA has not uninstalled completely.

Thank you!

I am going to work on the assumption now that it is completely uninstalled. (the "error" message I received previously was that it couldn't be installed because it was running in program) I searched for the uninstall file just now and nothing was found so I am hoping it is removed at least to the point it can be successfully reinstalled.

On to the re- installation. Is there a link you can provide for installation? It would be greatly appreciated. I do have the key I pulled from the other computer I had it loaded on.

Hi Dot

Let's work on that basis but if we find that this is not the case then depending on what verison of Windows you are running we can try opening a command prompt and running a command line uninstall (that is detailed in the first of the KB Articles I provided the link for.

In tems of a clean install here are some instructions including the links to download a new copy of the installer:

  • Make sure you have a copy of your Keycode
  • KEEP the computer online for the Reinstall to make sure it works correctly
  • Download a Copy Here (Best Buy Subscription PC users click HERE)
  • Reboot before running the installer
  • Install with the new installer, enter your Keycode and do not import any settings if so offerred during the install process; as you can set it up as you like once it's done
  • Let it finish it's install scan
  • Reboot once again

Let us know how that goes for you and if you manage to get WSA re-installed.

When I download the link you provided I get the WSA control panel that says Scan Required but also subscription expired??? I don't see anywhere I can reinstall.

~the "control panel" I speak of is the window that shows your status and has the utilities, account, password manager etc on the right hand side

p.s. - I know the subscription isn't expired.

Hi Dot

Clicking on the "Download a Copy Here" link should downlaod a file to your computer called "wsainstall.exe" which you should then try to run by clicking on it.  I am assuming that is what you mean when you say I download the link you provided..."?

If that is the case then it looks like WSA has not been uninstalled and so you will need to opening a command prompt and running a command line uninstall. To do this type the word (without quote marks) "cmd" in the Start Menu search field, and then right click on the option entitled "cmd" that is displayed as a result. In the context menu displayed by the right click select 'Run as administrator', which should open a command prompt window.

Type in or copy/paste the following:

 C:Program FilesWebrootWRSA.exe" –uninstall

and then press Enter.

That should now run the uninstaller natively and when prompted to uninstall, click Yes.

Then close the command prompt, REBOOT, and then try running the recently downloaded installer again.

Hopefully this time, with WSA completely uninstalled the installer will run normally and prompt you for your keycode, etc.

"cmd" (without the quotation marks) gives me a black box titled command prompt. And shows this in the box
C:UsersDot>C: with a blinking cursor at the end.

I don't envision that as where you are intending to send me.

Windows 8.1 BTW

Please excuse me if I don't make perfect sense - I have had an extremely long day.

Hi Dot

I am back...and ' Yes, that is precisely where I was envisioning you should and would end up. And what you now do is to is to carefully enter or better still copy/past (omitting the " marks) the whole of the command string that I included in my previous post, and then press 'Enter'...that should if WSA is stillinstalled on your system, run the installer in uninstall mode and hopefully give you the prompt  asking as to whether you wish to proceed with the unistall...to which you say 'Yes', (you will probably also get an IE page opening from Webroot asking why you arte uninstalling...if so then please inform them as you see fit) and once that is finished please immediately REBOOT.

And then try running the recently downloaded installer a agin as per the instructions previously provided (when connected to the Internet and with your keycode to hand).

I will be online on and off for most of Sunday and so will keep an eye open for your update...:D
