Essentially the browser extensions provide blocking protection against malicious websites, realtime anti-phishing protection, and safety ratings when using search engines. 
 
Each function can be enabled or disabled separately using individual controls for each function.

Basically the Web Filter protects you from bad Web Pages by Blocking them and give Web Site Ratings when doing searches with Google, Yahoo and Bing. All done by the Webroot WIN Cloud: http://www.brightcloud.com/platform/webroot-intelligence-network.php & http://www.brightcloud.com/tools/change-request-url-reputation.php
