I am new to Webroot, having installed it 5 days ago.  The only problem I am having is in Firefox (lastest version 39.0) loading a web page with Adobe flash content.  Specifically, I am having problems with the crossword puzzle and sudoku from the Indianapolis Star (web pages http://www.uclick.com/client/isn/fcx/ and http://www.uclick.com/client/isn/sudoc/).

With Webroot Filtering Extension 1.1.0.59 disabled, the puzzles load immediately.  With the extension enabled, the puzzles take at least 90 seconds to load, freezing the browser in the process.  I do not have any problem loading the same pages in Chrome or IE.  I am using the latest Shockwave Flash v. 18.0.0.209.

I am running Windows 7 Professional, SP1 (64 bit).  I tried uninstalling and reinstalling Webroot, with no change.  The only thing I am changing to produce this result is enabling/disabling Webroot Filtering Extension 1.1.0.59 in Firefox.  With the extension enabled, the page hangs up.  With the extension disabled, the page loads normally.

I doubt that this is a deal breaker, but not sure what the problem is.  Baldrick previously stated: "The Web Filtering Extension should have no effect on browsing as all it really does is provide the green check marks against search results...nothing more really."  See https://community.webroot.com/t5/Webroot-SecureAnywhere-Antivirus/Webroot-Filtering-Extension-causes-quite-noticeable-slowdown/m-p/138137#M7526.

Hi vanagon40

Welcome to the Community Forums...and glad that you have decided to take the plunge with WSA. :D

I also see that you have done your research...;)...but despite what I have posted previously on this the Webroot Filtering Extension should work properly in all browsers including Firefox.  As you say not having it is not a deal breaker but if it is installed and you are having to disable it to do what yo want to do then perhaps you would like to try deleting it from Firefox and then using an unofficla method that one of the Community members has put together for reinstalling manually.

I should point out that (i) this is slated for use with the Palemoon browser but should work for all Mozilla variants as well as Firefox itself. This works in both the 32-bit (x86) and 64-bit (x64) versions, also not that this is NOT OFFICIALLY SUPPORTED BY WEBROOT, and therefore this could stop working at any time.

If interested and yo feel technically capable then you can find the details of what to do here. As I said this is a long shot and so may/may not work.

If preferring to play safe then I would Open a Support Ticket and let the Support Team know of your issue so that they can advise/investigate.

Either way, please keep us posted on how this develops...such feedback is always useful for us in helping others in the future.

Regards, Baldrick

I have determined the problem is specific to my computer.  I have the same setup on another computer, Windows Pro 7 (SP1), Firefox 39.0, and the same web pages load with no problem.

I tried reloading Firefox, but there was no change.  However, I do not believe I got a completely clean install, as the newly installed Firefox retained a lot of my old settings.  I even ran CCleaner after the uninstall in attempt to wipe out the old cookies and register entries.

I may try again to get a "clean" install of Firefox.

Hi vanagon40

Sounds to me like you have a handle on the issue and that a clean install of Firefox would be an appropriate approach, and if needs be once you have done that you could also undertake a clean install of WSA, ust to make sure...in case you need them the instructions for the latter are as follows:

  • Make sure you have a copy of your Keycode
  • KEEP the computer online for Uninstall and Reinstall to make sure it works correctly
  • Download a copy here (Best Buy Subscription PC users click here)
  • Uninstall WSA and Reboot
  • Install with the new installer, enter your Keycode and don't import any settings if so offerred by the installer; you can set it up as you like once it's done
  • Let it finish it's install scan
  • Reboot once again
Hopefully that should put back the extensions as required, so check after to see if there is any change. If not then you best Open a Support Ticket if you have not already done so, or by phone during business hours, if your subscription is directly through Webroot. (The online Ticketing system is manned 24/7).

Hope that helps further?

Regards, Baldrick

Tried reinstalling both Firefox and Webroot.  Did not change the problem.  Since it is only one or two pages I am having problems with, I will simply ignore it and use Chrome for those pages.
