WEBROOT SEEMS TO STOP WORKING AT TIMES--AND UNINSTALL CRASHES

Hi,

I fear i may have a corrupted copy of WR.

First, VISTA lately has been asking if i want to allow WR to install on startup.
Since this warning has never appeared prior to a couple of weeks ago, I'm concerned this might be a virus / trojan horse / etc.
CAN I TRUST THIS WARNING TO BE VALID??

Occasionally, i am able to get WR booted up and running "properly".
But LATER the green W icon sometimes disappears and a red X appears from Window warning me that i no longer have protection.

I BELIEVE THAT WITH A CLEAN UNISTALL / REINSTALL THAT THESE PROBLEMS
MIGHT GO AWAY, BUT I AM UNABLE TO DO THAT BECAUSE THE UNISTALL
PROGRAM EVENTUALLY CRASHES.  IT MAY BE A CORRUPTED FILE.

So, my question is simple:

Would you please give me a list of instructions for VISTA on how to "rudely" uninstall WR?
Can i go to MSDOS, delete the directory, remove PID's, etc, to unistall it rudely?

I believe i could reinstall WR cleanly if i could just uninstall it.

I've been unproductive many hours over the course of several days now, unable to know for
sure if i'm properly protected.  Therefore any relatively speedy answers would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks as always.

Hi Rcut

You could certainly try an uninstall/clean reinatall to see if that helps. If you want to then please follow these instructions:

  • Make sure you have a copy of your Keycode
  • KEEP the computer online for Uninstall and Reinstall to make sure it works correctly
  • Download a Copy Here (Best Buy Subscription PC users click HERE)
  • Uninstall WSA and Reboot
  • Install with the new installer, enter your Keycode and do NOT import any settings; you can set it up as you like once it's done
  • Let it finish it's install scan
  • Reboot once again
In terms of a 'rude' uninstall under Vista; here you go:

For Windows Vista and Windows 7:
  1. Open the Start menu by clicking the Start icon.
  2. Type the following into the Start Search bar, exactly as it appears below.  Note: This path is for the default location. If you installed the program elsewhere, be sure to modify the path accordingly. Also please make sure that you run the commadline from a elevated prompt, i.e., as an Administrator. "C:Program FilesWebrootWRSA.exe" –uninstall
  3. Press the Enter key on your keyboard.
  4. When prompted to uninstall, click Yes.
(The complete details can be found HERE for all version in case you have need of them)

But if the above combined fails to resolve the problem, I would recommend that hit is time to contact Support for assistance.

If your subscription is directly through Webroot, you will need to contact Webroot Support.  You can do so by submitting a Support Ticket if you have not already done so, or by phone during business hours.  (The online Ticketing system is manned 24/7)

If your subscription is through Best Buy Subscription Software services, you may need to call them at 1-800-GEEK-SQUAD.

As I said in an earlier post there do seem to be some other occurrences of either the same or similar issues to that which you are describing and so hopefully if yo let the SupportTeam know they may already have figured out what the issue is.

Do keep us posted on your progress to resolution.

?  I have been having similar problems with my system since the lates Windows update on 12/16 with the UAC asking if I want Webroot to make changes to my hard drive and if I trust the program.

I have been told by the Tech Support and the good folks here on the board in the know that this is a bug that got released recently and they are trying to get it fixed.

I have tried to uninstall and reinstall to no avail, but I am also VERY untech savvy so that might be part of the problem.  I am still having problems but I also need more help than most when it comes to getting tech stuff squared away, so that's on me, not necessarily WSA.

And just so you know, Baldrick is one who can help navigate you toward a resolution so you're in good hands. 😉

I really appreciate that heads up...

Do you recall if Tech support thought it was ok to go ahead and accept the UAC message as valid?  I guess it's obviously not a virus/worm/tr. horse if it's a MS bug.

No worries and Webroot is working on it and your safe and sound!

?  They didn't say that I shouldn't/couldn't, and I have clicked to accept when the message comes up because I do trust Webroot implicitly.  The problem seems to be between the two not processing the correct information, and it was the Microsoft Security updates that caused the snafu to come to a head, so i think that there's a disconnect somewhere in there where the right information isn't being processed.

The Tech Support fellow did tell me that even if the messages you're receiving are telling you things aren't working right, the WSA product IS working in the background to make sure that you are protected, which made my anxiety level drop dramatically.

I still want to see everything look/process the way it should, but as long as I am protected while they figure out this bug issue, then I'm a more zen camper!

I hope that helps, and welcome to the community!!!  😃

Hi Rcut

As Daniel has said...they are working on it and even though it appears not to be the case WSA is protecting you...so all should be well.
