When I go on the internet most of the sites tell me to upgrade. What is best.

I presume that the sites are detecting that you are running under WinXP, which is no longer supported by Microsoft, and making a suggestion from that?
 
If that is the case then whether to upgrade or not is a moot point to some. Personally, if yo are going to upgrade then the only way to go is WIndows 8.1, becauase although WIndows 10 is on the cards (i) it has been delayed until autumn this year & (ii) it is widely mooted that Win10 will be a free upgrade for Win8.1 users.
 
Having said that do some research as you will find Win8.1 quite a difference when compared to WinXP.
 
Perhaps @ would be happy to provide some advice as I know that he has and does run different Win versions under VM, and so may have some apposite insight into this question?
