Why does only one magazine, PCMag.com, rate Webroot? Others ratings don't even mention Webroot.

First of foremost IMO does your techie neighbor really know about Webroot? Norton can't keep up with all the old ways of detecting a virus with the old way of signatures. Can Norton roll back your system if it does miss a virus?

That is a great reply from Sherry and I hope it answers your question.
 
So your techie neighbour swears by Norton and he thinks Webroot is superficial :S.
It could depend on someones meaning of superficial.
Norton is by no means at all superficial, if you do a simple search for how much space does Norton take up on your hard drive you will get a range of answers some of 1Gb of space. So from that point of view Webroot is superficial.
However Webroot may be tiny in comparison but it is powerful, does not hog system resources, it is quick, light etc.
I think there is a popular misconception with people. If they see a program such as Norton (but this could be any of the so called popular ones) for sale in most computer shops they start to think that it must be good otherwise the shops would not stock it, I hate to admit it but I was guilty of that fault once.
 
Try uninstalling the programs from those so called good AV vendors and see how long it takes and then add on the amount of time it takes to install again and you will soon realise how much of a leader Webroot is.
 
Just a closing comment now. Webroot does free trials, challenge your neighbour to try it free and then ask him for his opinion. I think we would be interested to know how it goes.

I wanted to add that there are a few reasons why Webroot does not appear in all comparisons. Many of them are not particularly credible (charge a fee to be included, are not using valid testing methodology, etc.), so we choose not to participate. We have also elected not to participate in some of the other comparisons because their methodology does not support our new and unique technology, but only works with outdated AV programs. Here is a statement that might be of interest. It sounds like your neighbor is perhaps just not familiar with Webroot, and is only going on some very limited information. If you like, you can let him know that he can try Webroot alongside Norton, as it won't conflict if he has both installed. Thanks so much for asking about this!

Speaking of resource usage of Webroot!  Just got done looking at Task Manager and Webroot is only using about a total of 12mb right now on my machine even though it is monitoring browser activity right now!  So WRSA is very light compaired to others!
