why is java giving my laptop problems? is there another one that i can use in its place?
It seems like every time i download java i am having issues with my laptop.

Uninstall all versions of Java that you have and reboot and go here to get the Latest and if your using a 64bit OS download and install both offline versions: https://community.webroot.com/t5/Security-Industry-News/Java-SE-8-update-20-released/m-p/140837#M7996
