Windows 10 reboots after installing WSA

On my son's windows 10 rig I had Norton antivirus installed, along with Microsoft family safety. The Norton product was the simplest antivirus. The license expired, and after using Wsav with success on my work systems, I've decided to install it on my son's system as well. After uninstalling Norton and installing Wsav everything seemed to work fine, at least while I was logged in as an admin. The trouble started after my son started using the machine. 3 reboots in no less than an hour.I have a strong hunch this is related to the windows 10 family safety. So the question is had anyone used wsav along with ms family safety in Erin 10?

Hi carmik

My apologies as it seems as if your post has somehow fallen down the cracks...so to speak...and you have not had a response.

Let me therefore try to remedy that now.

Well, the presence of the Family Safety feature in any version of Windows is a new one on me...never new it was there and therefore I suspect that many will be in the same boat and therefore I suspect that there are very few, if any, Community members using it with WSA.

Having said that I have done some research and found this page over at the MS Support Forum that may be of assistance, if only in terms of making sure that you have everything configured after the upgrade as it states "If you had previously set up family features for a child account and then upgraded to Windows 10, there are a few steps you need to take to turn on family settings again."

I would start by checking that your setup for Family Safety is as it should be.  If that does not resolve the issue then next I would undertake an unistall/clean re-install of WSA...just to make sure that the issue is not due to a faulty install (that can sometimes happen).  To do this please follow these instructions:

  • Make sure you have a copy of your Keycode
  • KEEP the computer online for Uninstall and Reinstall to make sure it works correctly
  • Download a Copy Here (Best Buy Subscription PC users click HERE)
  • Uninstall WSA and Reboot
  • Install with the new installer, enter your Keycode and do not import any settings if so offered by the installer; you can set it up as you like once it's done
  • Let it finish it's install scan
  • Reboot once again
If this ALSO fails to resolve the problem, you may need to contact Support for assistance.

If your subscription is directly through Webroot, you will need to contact Webroot Support.  You can do so by submitting a Support Ticket, or by phone during business hours.  (The online Ticketing system is manned 24/7). This is a free service for all WSA users with a current/active subscription.

If your subscription is through Best Buy Subscription Software services, you may need to call them at 1-800-GEEK-SQUAD.

I hope that something in the above reply helps?

Regards, Baldrick

Thanks for replying.

In situations like this I would normally check the BSOD dumps for hints. In this case there were none; the minidump directory was empty. Furthermore, apart from some unrelated warnings/errors, there was nothing in event log.

So I blindly applied a Norton Antivirus removal tool. Perhaps that was it, because during testing yesterday no reboots took place. I'll keep the thread open though, in case something screws up.

OT1: is there a changelog of WSA versions?

OT2: Apart from the executable and the different support team, are there any differences in features betweeen the "normal" WSA programs and the BB versions?

Answer 1: There is no changelog per se, but there is always a set of Release Notes.  Look for them in the Announcements and Release Notes forum.

Answer 2: The Best Buy version is identical to the standard WSA-Internet Security Plus version with one difference:
Best Buy has the System Optimizer, but no System Analyzer
WSA-IS+ has no SYstem Optimizer but has System Analyzer.

I hope this helps!
