Windows 8 Automatic Maintenance Won't Complete

On my laptop there's a little flag icon that tells me when there is a message from the Windows center that tells me when there are updates available for download and that sort of thing, and one of the things that it says it to run Automatic Maintenance because it had been interrupted.

Two weeks ago the Automatic Maintenance was running and it would freeze up my laptop entirely which caused me to have to turn off the laptop and start all over again.  It did that for two days in a row, then when I now click on the flag icon to see what's new, it says I need to run the maintenance, which I do, but then it apparently stops itself and gives the same message again.

Could something in my more recent Windows security updates be tweaking something in my WSA program and it's keeping the maintenance from running through its whole processes?

Just wondering if anyone else has had this happen to them.

Thanks, all!

Hi gr8auntteffie

Hope that you are well?

It is always possible that WSA is blocking something that MS is trying to run but in my experience it is rare and if it is happening to you then it will be happening to a whole lot of others...and yours is the first case that I have heard of it.

It may be worth checking under 'PC Security' > gear/cog symbol > 'Block/Allow Files' to see if any recognisable (by their file path) Windows components are showing up in the list, and that with a status of 'Block'.  If so then you can try changing the status to 'Allow' and seeing if that helps?

And also doing the same under under 'Utilities' > 'System Control' > 'Control Active Processes' > click on 'Start' button.

If that yields nothing and the issue continues then I would Open a Support Ticket to let the support Team know and then can examine the Scan & Threat Logs that are automatically uploaded with the support ticket being opened, looking for any relevant files that may be coming up as [u] or Unlisted, check them out and whitelist them if necessary, which if that was the case would hopefully solve the issue for you.

Do keep us posted on how you get on.

Hope that helps?

Regards, Baldrick
