+1Before I installed Webroot, I read that I would need to have Windows Defender active. Is this true?

Welcome to the Community Forums.
That is not true. You do not have to have Windows Defender active per se. It will be active mostlly, if you have not turned it off, as it comes with Windows and is active by default.
