Hey, recently I downloaded a file (I forgot the name but I deleted it) and sooner or later a message pops up saying "This site says critical programming error alert". I click on the button that says close but it does the opposite and opens another pop up with the same message. I tried everything to get it to go away, and after some persistance, the pop ups dissapeared. But I am still worried about my safety because I read on different forums that this adware was very dangerous and that it had to be removed right away. Is my personal information safe? Im very worried about this issue.

Hello carlos12, and Welcome to the Webroot Community.

It's not easy to say what the issue might be. What do you see using different browsers? Is the warning still there?

Yes, you may have been affected by Adware, and for peace of mind you can Submit a Support Ticket  and they will make sure all is ok. The service is free as part of an active Webroot subscription.

And please let us know if you have any questions, or can provide more details. Thanks.

Edit: In a Microsoft thread (post #10) I see this:

"this site says...
critical programming error alert

the website you are attempting to access is infected
with malware."       http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/protect/forum/protect_defender-protect_scanning/problem-with-browser-tech-support-popup/9e386cbe-7c45-4f81-954c-92c24eab4ce2?page=1

And although you didn't mention any "Tech Support" (i.e. SCAM) phone number, it supprts the advice that you should Submit a Support Ticket
