Would a CCleaner registry cleanup make SecureAnywhere forget it had ever scanned?

I've been having severe Windows 10 instability issues, where my laptop locks up on reboot.  I've been running Windows Repair from Tweaking.com which sometimes fixes the issue, sometimes it doesn't.  It's getting to the point where I might just have to try to never reboot so things stay working.

One of the side issues is how SecureAnywhere just told me it had never done a scan, even though I'm like 9 days in and it had scanned every day.  The scheduled scan was 4AM, but changed to 10PM, possibly to match the time I was doing my 'first' scan.

Where does SecureAnywhere store its settings?  Could CCleaner (a tool I use often) remove the settings when I do a registry repair?  It's the last thing I'd done earlier tonight before rebooting then spending several hours getting the laptop working again.

I'm soon going to contact Microsoft about getting a DVD so I can repair Windows 10.  Not sure they will geive me one since I did the free upgrade, but SOMETHING needs to be fixed.

Thanks...

Hello mikepaul,

Welcome to the Webroot Community,

So sorry you are having all these issue. I don't believe CCleaner would even effect Webroot Settings. Please look here at the PC User Guide

I also don't know much about tweaking, com but you might do more harm then good. You can go here to Microsoft help site about restore options http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-10/windows-10-recovery-options

If you would like to try a uninstall/clean reinstall of Webroot just to eliminate the possibility that Webroot might be the cause of some of these issues. Then follow these steps below. This will only take 5 minutes or so to do. ok?

Please follow the steps closely!

  • Make sure you have a copy of your 20 Character Alphanumeric Keycode! Example: SA69-AAAA-A783-DE78-XXXX
  • KEEP the computer online for Uninstall and Reinstall to make sure it works correctly
  • Download a Copy Here (Best Buy Subscription PC users click HERE)
  • Uninstall WSA and Reboot
  • Install with the new installer, enter your Keycode and don't import any settings if asked to as you can set it up as you like once it's done
  • Let it finish it's install scan
  • Reboot once again
Please let us know if that resolves your issue? Or if you need more help.

Thanks,

You dont need to contact microsoft to get a Windows DVD.
You can make one yourself.. a bootable DVD or USB Drive

https://www.microsoft.com/en-in/software-download/windows10

Use the bootable dvd or usb creation tool provided by MS to create your own fresh indtallation media.
Make sure you backup your Windows Key to activate.
If your device is already activated, then you can do a fresh installation and windows will get activated automatically.

It is not Webroot nor is it CCleaner.  Personal experience... it is tweaking.com.  Did exactly the same thing to one of my PCs..It became unbootable by any means.  First time in my life taking my PC to a professional for help.  My advice is don't ever go near tweaking .com again.....

I have had to do several os reinstalls for people to undo the damage that tweaking.com tool did.It should only ever be used by professionals.AT default settings it can do a TON of damage.I have it on my pc but i have had no reason to use it in some time.As it's been said time and time again..always backup to another drive before attempting any changes to your system. If money is a factor, the Free version of macrium reflect does the job just fine.

To be honest, Windows Repair from Tweaking.com is quite safe to use...I have used in numerous time on a number os systems, all to very good effect.

However, that said the previso with anything that works at a granular system level (of which Windows Repair is only one example) is to make sure that (i) you know what you are doing & (ii) have a backup or image of your system to hand.

Indeed, you should be able to reverse the changes made by Windows Repair as it take a Registry backup by default before you run repairs and it also recommends that one takes a Restore Point too...those should have been your first port of call in terms of reversing what you had tried when you noticed that things were not being corrected.

Very good advice to us novices.  It should never be used except for the professionals.  Could I have read these posts prior to discovering it,  I would be $200 wealthier.
