I just had a problem with an adware website posing as Microsoft Security Essentials - I thought i was bogus so i found a way out of the locked up web browsers. Then I searched for Microsoft help and found a link to their Chat at that time i told the tech about the "Warning" asking me to call an 877 number and he told me it was adware and not to listen - but then i asked about a big problem i have had for a long time I cannot upgrade from Windows 8 to 8.1 he asked if i would give him remote access - I did he did a bunch of things including scanning for Viruses and the like and found over 200 Trackers, Malicious Cookies, Trojan Viruses with a program called Hitman Pro. He said they needed to be cleaned up if i did online shopping or banking of which i do alot.
He wanted me to subscribe to an Advanced PC Tuneup but i stalled him and finally he deleted the problems and tried to help me fix the corrupted files that cause me to not be able to upgrade.
But the big question i have is why didn't Webroot Secure Everywhere find those Trackers, Malicious Cookies, Trojan Viruses? It made me feel vulnerable and I do not like that. I Like Webroot but what is that about?
Thanks
Michael-Patrick
