I have upgraded from Windows 7 to 10 and sorting out problems one by one. I cannot set up the Homegroup Network like I used to have on 7. One of the suggestions has been to make sure the network connections is set to "trusted" under the firewall in Webroot.. When I go to the GeekSquad feature "How-to" and follow directions, the Firewall section is different that the actual program. What am I not doing right please.

Hi Cookie1

Welcome to the Community Forums.

If I may just add to what Dermot has posted?  I am afraid that since Windows 8 the way the Microsoft allow securioty app providers to interface with the buildt in Windows Firewal, which WSA uses/supplements in relation to Outbound connections (Inboud connections are left entirely to the built in Windows Firewall to manage) it is no longer possible to adjust the settings in WSA.

The only way to do that is either to use the 'Windows Firewall with Advanced Security' control applet (you can access this directly by typing the aforementioned name (without inverted commas) into the search feature in Windows 10 and then clikcing on the relevant search result). It is not a very intuitive piece of software but if you click on the 'Outbound Rules' option you should be able to see/find the relavant rules and what thet are currently set at.

This is not for the faint hearted, unfortunately, and care needs to be taken, if making a change, that one either has back up of the system to which to return if something goes awry or to make careful notes of what settings have been changed and what they were before the change...so as to be able to put then back to what thet were originally.

The other alternative would be to use a 3rd party firewall (which replaces the Windows Firewall completely) or a Windows Firewall Helper app...but in either case one is delving into a very technical area, so I would suggest that you contact Geek Squad, advise them that their advice is of no help due to the change in the way WSA works at Windows 10, and ask them to assist you with the check...they should have technical experts who can help with that.

Hope that helps further?

Ah ? Many thanks, and my apologies for overlooking (+lack of experience with use of) the changed arrangement you helpfully clarified. Thanks ;)

Hi Dermot

Absolutely no need to apologise...it is all about teamwork. :D
