Why did webroot not protect me from the Crypto3 virus

I have been on Webroot since January at the suggestion of my brother.  I just got zapped by the crypto3 encripting virus.  Whoy did Webroot not protect me or suggest that I not open an email that was infected with it.  I was on McAfee for years and never had any infection.

    While Crypto Wall 3.0 has been around for a while, there are thousands of new variations released every day.
