I got webroot when the free Avira program and the firewall from my TDS provider failed to keep out malware that disguised itself as "flash updates" even though I didn't click on them. They just kept coming and the Avirus kept popping up windows that malware was entering my computer... I got webroot and have scanned and eliminated some of it, but it is still on the computer because whenever I hook the ethernet cable back up to the computer, it slows down and eventually locks up. It runs fine as long as I don't have the internet hooked up by the ethernet cable. Webroot can't get it off. I am typing this on an old computer with XP on it, which doesn't seem to be victimized like Windows 8. This is not a cache or memory problem. Everybody seems to think I have to save the programs and wipe the hard drive clean and start over. Any ideas? And why can't Webroot get this malware off my computer, and don't ever use the Avira program EVER!
Hello gillcarbide,

Welcome to the Community Forum.

May I ask if you have uninstalled Avira?  Can you name the popups that keep popping up? You may need to look at

You might also want to Start your Computer in Safemode with Networking if you still have Malware.
