I have thousands of music CD's. Mostly R & B, the blues and country. NO LAUGHING.

My all time favorite (at the moment) is definitely Mark Knopfler. He is genius material. He is so versatile that I can't think of a stringed instrument that he can't play well. Plus he writes lyrics, more like incredible ballads. Have been listening to him since his Dire Straits days. He did put out a few pieces that rubbed me the wrong way but I forgave him.

I think I'll toss The Chieftains into the ring also.

Enjoy what you like. Music is a.gift.

Mmm i'm more of a ZZ Top fan can't help it. Sure hope i get to see them once live before they turn into mummies.

Hey Shran,  I think this is a great idea.  Independent artists like myself can certainly make use of any legal avenue available to promote our music or just post great music in general.

Wow! 29,475 minutes spent on this site and I'm just NOW finding this thread???

This is right up my alley. I was even going to suggest such an idea, but many thanks to ? for making it a reality. ;)

One of the bands I've really been digging lately is the English group Alt-J. I was intoduced to them through KEXP's "song of the day" podcast. The very first time I heard their music I thought to myself, WTF? But over time, Alt-J started growing on me like some sort of weird fungus. They continue to make great, eclectic music. From their sublime melodies and vocal extremes to their hypnotic percussion, Alt-J are truly a one-of-a-kind band.

Here is the very first song I ever heard from Alt-J, "Fitzpleasure," from their first album. I prefer to link to just the audio only as I feel one's first impression of a song should be the music, not one person's visual interpretation of it.
If, when listening, you find yourself saying, "WTF?" don't worry, that's a perfectly normal reaction. :)

Enjoy!

Hi @, you're welcome. I find them relaxing as well. They DO, however, take the cake when it comes to weird videos. Just look at the video for their song Breezeblocks.

Hope you're really enjoying your getaway vacation. Don't have too much fun. :D

I am having a total change and playing something I have not listened to for quite a while and as Saint Patricks Day is coming up it is quite appropriate.

Interesting but not my cup of tea...when I think of Ireland I think of Clannad or Enya.

But what I think is irrelevant if you are enjoying it. :D

As I have said before my thing these days is Smooth Jazz, in all its forms...and if I am looking to be slightly more edgy then it is Acid Jazz (a la Brand New Heavies, etc.).

But having said that my days of experimenting are long gone...as I need music to relax rather than excite me...LOL

I had to rescue my clean socks etc. from Suzie, for some reason she loves in rolling in clean washing LOL

I agree 100%, that jazz is wonderful to relax to and if I am sat down reading that is what I would choose every time.

Cool links ?, thanks for posting. That guy is pretty amazing. He reminds me of the singer from Alt-J a little (or vice-versa).

I listen to all types of music but lean toward indie-rock.

"Augustines", formerly known as "We are Augustines" are an indie rock band from Brooklyn, New York. They have two albums out and are known for their epic live shows. This is the first song I ever heard from them, from their first album, and it's still one of my favorites. I absolutely love the bridge in this song (at 2:30).
