Hi people, new to Apple MAC.  Need to encrypt an external drive for backup.  Can't figure out how.  Anyboy got easy way to do this

I currently have an old cable modem which is connected to a wireless router. Newer modems have wi-fi capabilities built right in, which I guess eliminates the need for a router altogether.   My (limited) understanding is that routers have built-in firewalls, which work a little differently than software firewalls. So, do these new modems have firewalls built-in as well? If not, I'd be a little hesitant to make the switch. Is the Windows firewall sufficient? Is there an advantage to having a hardware firewall as well? Even a simple google search for "wireless modem firewall" (not with quotes) turns up mostly hits with the word "router."   I'm sure it's more complicated, but am I sort of understanding this right?

I had this problem once before when there was some sort of bug that caused the Webroot icon that shows the yellow lock when you're on line to disappear from the start up icons when my system is 'waking up' after being turned off for the night.   It was there yesterday and today when I logged on, it wasn't there, though the larger Webroot program icon that I pinned to the bottom taskbar so that I can initiate a manual scan is still in place and it did run the scan.   So, does anyone know if there is some new bug in the system after some sort of update on the daily processes?   I know, it's probably a stupid question, but being such a worrywart and being very visual, if my screen doesn't look like it should, especially when it comes to security icons and such, then I get all bent...   Thank you in advance for your patience!

My Grandson was playing games on my Android tablet and I went to plug tablet into charger and noticed red exclamation mark on Webroot. Webroot ended up putting 2 kids games in Quarantine. They were "Shotgun Shot Reload"  and "Tiny Troopers." Which is a Trojan. Webroot labeled Android.Ads.Airpush a PUA and gave me 2 options. Restore this item or Delete Permanently. Of course I took the latter one.   EDITED: This Trojan is able to send MMS and emails Make phone calls Track your Location  Read your browser history/ bookmarks  Steal sensitive data Particpate in a botnet Conduct click fraud.     Love that Webroot is doing its job! 😉
