As some might have been able to tell, I am on Reddit quite a bit.  You know, for science.  Yesterday, Bill Gates hosted an open discussion for members of the community to ask him anything about everything.  Topics covered ranged from his past, his beliefs, technology, and even Steve Jobs.  I highly recommend heading over and checking it out for yourself. Some of you who are using windows 8 might find shutting down and other options in windows 8 a bit tangled. Moving your cursor to the right upper corner brings out the charms menu and  opening the Charms bar, clicking Settings, selecting the Power button and choosing 'Shut down', does the job normally.   Or from metro menu you can signout and you will see login page with shutdown button..   Still messy? For some weird reasons my windows 8 started showing the context menu and cascades to the left side. And after poking around a lot i figured it out.   To change context menu orientation :   1. Start the ‘Run’ command 2. Type in: shell:::{80F3F1D5-FECA-45F3-BC32-752C152E456E} – click on OK 3. This will start the Tablet PC Settings configuration dialog - even if you do not have a Tablet PC 4. Select the ‘Other’ tab 5. I missed a few threads in Ideas Exchange forum because of subscriptions weren't made automatically when I replied. It means that I had to add subscriptions manually for all threads in Ideas Exchange where I had posted replies. However this is only happening in Ideas forum. In all other forums here on the Community subscriptions are made automatically when I make replies. To refute doubts, I have enabled "Automatically subscribe me to topics I participate in" in My Settings.   Is it a feature of Ideas forum or something is not working correctly on my end?

I have been around about a year and just renewed for another...couldn't imagine browsing without WSA Complete. And besides, someone has to keep the Triple Helix and the Pro Trucker in line!!!:D

My apologies if you just received an erroneous email stating you received a new rank.  I made the mistake of creating an empty rank, which resulted in a bunch of private message notifications stating "you have a new rank!" when really you don't. :$  So for about 10 seconds, a lot of people were "Threat Researchers" in name only.  There were no permissions attached to the rank, so the only problem was the spammy notifications.  My apologies!  Sorry about that to anyone who received an erroneous message.

I cannot remember the last time I got an annoying but legimate telemarketing call.   In order to help you all out and get to the meat and potatoes of this fast, let me start with the key take-away from this post:   Do not do any business with any "company" that calls you over the phone anymore.   There have been multiple "companies" (see how I'm using quotes) that keep repeatedly calling us with an automated war dialer which has a short delay to make sure a human answers. The Caller ID is either completely blocked (no data sent at all), a fictious number and state name, or a very general, pretend "company" name with a number that when called back has an automated system for removing you from the calling list which does NOTHING but hang up on you.   The only way to talk to a real person is when they call you. I recently stumbled on this article on ZDnet and thought it would be worth sharing.  As a big Twitter user myself, with 5 different accounts for various objectives, I often receive these messages in my inbox or as a tagged message.  I will admit I have fallen for it once as a message came from a friend of mine, but was able to recover through resetting my passwords, ensuring all my connected accounts were removes, and many apologies to friends and followers.  But sometimes a little reminder is necessary for us all as these types of attempted attacks become more advanced, and often more personal.   As most ZDNet readers know, phishing scammers find ways to forge emails from legitimate sites, hoping to get your personal details such as name, social security number, password, and so on. These forged emails often appear to come from financial institutions, so the scammer can access your bank account.  Read the full blurb:

While I cannot provide the link (old outdated phone I am using), I wonder what you think about the idea of $100.00/year for Microsoft Office?
