Hi all!   I thought I'd introduce myself as a new member, and user of WSA Complete.   I was first introduced to WSA at Wilders Security Forum, which made me make sure I visited the Webroot stand at InfoSec last week 😃 I'm very glad I did, WSA is running like a dream!   In "real life" I am a network manager for an educational organisation, where security is our number one priority. Currently running ESET throughout, with many other policies / software. I'll be watching WSA closely when our contracts run out :D   Glad to meet you all!

Hello, all.   My name is Anna and I'm a Front Line Engineer here at Webroot. I have been on this site for awhile, but have been having fun reading other's posts instead of making my own. I felt it was time to change that.   I can't really speak of a hometown having grown up in the military, but after college I was finally able to chose my own location to live for a change and came out to Colorado. And I love it. :D   I'm a fan of a variety of books, shows, music, and food. However I definitely lean towards sci-fi/fantasy and mystery/crime for the first two.

Hi, I have been using webroot for a few years now, and I'm wondering right now if anyone else gets the fake anti-virus software boxes that say you have a virus. I get one for Windows Security Essentials wanting to scan my computer I don't have that so know it is a fake. . Webroot does not pick them up. I'll do a scan, deep, quick and full and nothing comes up. I know this is an introduction forum...I'm old don't know much about pc's, but I have tried to keep on top of the virus, malware spyware thing by having the webroot. For the most part I don't worry, and only once a virus got through with Webroot...and that was probably my fault. These fake virus software things are a pain in the rear and I would expect Webroot to catch them but they aren't. Any suggestions?   Thanks so much, Lola

My old antivirus always flagged when incoming emails were scanned for viruses.  Does Webroot do this automatically and only advise if a problem is found?

Myth!   Antivirus protection is a slicker in the storm and it’s great that you have it for inclement “conditions.” However, a new virus enters the web-o-sphere quicker than you can say, “Trojan-says-what?” Buy software that updates definitions regularly, preferably automatically.   Also, antivirus software only stops viruses from infecting your system while you browse, which is great, but it’s not going to save you from a hacker’s super-smart coding hat trick. Get a multilayered solution that sweeps, firewalls, and safeguards.

Question:  How does WSA perform when no network connectivity is available?   Answer:  While WSA has the strongest protection when connected to the Internet, it provides significant protection when offline. A few thousand critical signatures are pushed down from the cloud for offline protection. The client remembers all of the files it's been told about to provide protection. The client further uses behavioral heuristics to block threats when offline and can even turn into a full "whitelist-only" mode. All files are set to monitor when offline - heuristics are applied in real-time and pre-execution. Each system modification is precisely tracked by WSA. Once the client is back online, if a program is eventually found to be malicious, every change that was made can be reverted.     Question:  Is there a way to create granular overrides for specific or global endpoints?   Answer:  Yes. Deployment tool - It works ok.  I wish there were something more permanent like the deployment tool built into the old Webroot Corporate edition.  However, it's better than what comes with webroot web security... 2. There's an overwhelming amount of policy settings and it's not straight forward on what they all do.  I wish it had a tool tip pop up next to every setting with a description.  That would be easier than going through the help pages. 3. I wish Webroot Web Security was part of the same web console or at least the client should be the same.  Now I have to use two consoles and deploy two clients.   I'm not sure I understand totally how the product works.  It says it uses cloud resources and stores threat defs online etc. but then how would it work when I'm offline?

Set up automatic bill-pay for your regular bills before you leave   Being able to pay all of your bills online may leave you complacent about doing so in a public place, but you really shouldn’t be logging into your bank and cutting electronic checks for your utility bills while you’re on the road. Most banks offer free automatic bill payment services. Take advantage of them if they’re available, so you don’t miss a monthly charge.   If, for some reason, you can’t set up automatic bill payment, try paying off your bills just before you leave, or pay more than the monthly total if you’ll still be travelling during the end of your next billing cycle.   If you must pay a bill online while you’re on vacation, create a temporary password and change it as soon as you return home.
